Mahuwa Mission 2025: Upcoming

Mahuwa Mission 2025: Upcoming

Building on the success of the initial plantation in 2024, Mahuwa Mission 2025 is set to expand its reach, deepen community engagement, and elevate its impact across the Dang region and beyond. The upcoming phase marks a strategic shift from pilot implementation to scale-up and sustainability.

Key Goals for 2025:

  • Plantation of 2,000+ Mahuwa Trees
The mission plans to more than double its previous achievement, with the plantation of over 2,000 Mahuwa seedlings in selected community forests. This includes expanding work with existing forest user groups and identifying new CFUG partners in other districts.
  • Enhanced Monitoring & Forest Care
A structured forest management plan will be introduced with periodic monitoring, survival tracking of Mahuwa trees, and community-led care routines. Local youth and women’s groups will be trained for sustainable forest stewardship.
  • Wider Community Collaboration
Mahuwa Mission 2025 aims to collaborate with at least five new Community Forest User Groups (CFUGs), with a focus on Indigenous- and women-led governance. These partnerships will be supported by forest technicians and local ward offices.
  • Economic Empowerment through Mahuwa
Alongside plantation, the mission will pilot value chain development of Mahuwa flowers and products (like wine, syrup, and dried blossoms). This will involve training on harvesting techniques, hygiene, and small-scale processing.
  • Eco-Tourism & Educational Trails
In select forest areas like Ambeshwori Mahila CF, the Mission will work to develop eco-tourism zones, picnic spots, and nature-learning trails—designed to promote environmental education and generate local income.

Strategic Partnerships

To support these goals, Mahuwa Mission 2025 will continue to work with:

  • Division Forest Offices
  • Community Forest Coordination Committees
  • Municipal and Ward Authorities
  • Nepal Army (for technical and logistical support)
  • Local schools and youth groups for awareness and volunteer mobilization

Vision for the Future

By 2025 and beyond, Mahuwa Mission envisions transforming community forests into thriving agroforestry hubs where conservation, culture, and commerce co-exist. With each Mahuwa tree planted, the mission plants hope—hope for biodiversity, for climate resilience, and for dignified livelihoods rooted in Indigenous identity.
